In a northern town of Leask, Saskatchewan, after the birth of four daughters Louise & Solomon

Spears were ecstatic with the birth of their first son.  When he was seven weeks old his father passed away.  Being the only son and youngest – mother and son formed a tight bond.  When Tom was nine his mother remarried and moved to Creston, B.C.  The family later moved to Waldo, B.C. where Tom completed his schooling.

Tom began what was to become his life long profession in the lumber industry in the town of Golden, B.C.  Here he met his lovely young bride Trudy Bath-they were married in 1963.  The young couple started their new life together in Nickleson, B.C.  Here the family welcomed their one and only son Tyrone-a clone of his father.

In 1966Tom, Trudy &Tyrone moved to Vancouver Island and settled in Youbou.  Here they built their first house.  Tom was a volunteer of the town’s firefighters.  The family moved to Nanaimo where Tom continued to pursue his career in the lumber industry obtaining certification as a saw fitter, circular saw fitter and benchman.  Later Tom would accept employment in Tahsis.  Trudy &Tyrone remained in Nanaimo.  Tom developed his own successful business-Allstar Mill Service which he operated until his health no longer permitted.  Tom took his expertise to the lumber industries in Ireland and Australia.

Tom was an avid motorcyclist.  Tom &Trudy traveled extensively-participating in touring events; Canada to Mexico, Mexico to Canada1984, 1986-87 and 1999.  Four Corners Motorcycle Tour in 1997 to name a few.  Tom, Trudy &Tyrone enjoyed fishing and spent many enjoyable times on their boat catching salmon and halibut.  Tom also enjoyed restoring antique tractors.  He loved life and could always be counted on to liven up a gathering with stories of his travels and interesting people he had met.  His wonderful spirit will be missed by family and friends.  Go rest high on that mountain Tom-your work on earth is done.  You will live forever in our hearts.  God bless and keep you.
